Questions

Everything you need to know

What exactly do I get for €50?+
A real tree, planted directly in the ground in your name in Alpedrinha, Portugal. A real photo of your tree, tagged with your name. Your unique tree number and an official certificate. Your €50 pre-order is what funds this plan — the land, the water supply, the planting itself.
When will my tree be planted?+
This is a pre-sale, and every pre-order is what funds the plan. As soon as we've secured enough pre-orders and donations to buy the land and set up water supply, your tree goes straight into the ground — no nursery, no holding pattern. Pre-sale customers are first in line, and we'll keep you updated every step of the way.
Can I visit my tree?+
Not yet — site visits aren't something we can offer during the pre-sale, but it's part of the long-term plan as the forest grows. For now, you'll get a real photo of your tree with your name on it, along with your official certificate.
Can I cancel the €5/month plan?+
Yes. Cancel anytime, no questions asked. Your tree stays in the ground forever regardless — cancelling only stops your monthly contribution toward new land and new trees.
Why only 5,000 trees?+
We are committed to planting every single tree with full care and tagging. 5,000 is the number we can guarantee at the highest standard. Once they are gone, that is it.
Can I give a tree as a gift?+
Absolutely. Enter the recipient's name at checkout and the certificate will be made out to them. It is an extraordinary gift for birthdays, anniversaries, Christmas, or in memory of someone you love.
What's the difference between a donation and the monthly plan?+
Your monthly plan (if you've pre-ordered a tree) keeps expanding the forest, tree by tree, over time. A one-time donation is different — it goes straight into buying land and building the water infrastructure the whole forest depends on. See the Donate page for the full story.

A story, not a sales pitch

We have decades,
not centuries.

This is not a political opinion. This is what science confirms. And it is the reason a 19-year-old in Portugal decided that waiting for someone else to fix it wasn't good enough anymore.

Alpedrinha sits in the hills of Castelo Branco, Portugal — land that has been cleared, dried out, and left mostly quiet for decades. Stand there today and you'll see scrubland, exposed soil, and the kind of silence that comes from an ecosystem that lost most of its trees a long time ago. It doesn't have to stay that way.

The idea behind Sylva is almost embarrassingly simple: buy the land, get water to it, and put trees in the ground — real ones, thousands of them, each one registered to a real person, in a real place. Not a symbolic gesture. Not a certificate that represents a tree somewhere that may or may not exist. An actual forest, growing, on actual land, because actual people decided to fund it into existence.

That's the part most people don't think about when they picture "planting a tree": before a single sapling goes into the ground, someone has to own the land, and that land has to have water — boreholes, tanks, ponds and swales, irrigation lines — or nothing planted on it survives its first dry Portuguese summer. That's the unglamorous, essential work this whole plan depends on. It's also exactly what your pre-order and every donation goes toward.

This tree is not yours.
It belongs to the atmosphere.

When you pre-order a Sylva tree, you're not buying a product. You're funding the part of this plan that makes everything else possible — the land, the water, the roots in the ground.

Your tree will produce oxygen long after you are gone. It will absorb carbon your grandchildren would otherwise inhale. It will shelter wildlife and cool the land around it. It is the most permanent, most real thing you can do today — and it only happens because you funded it.

The world needs you to act today.

Not tomorrow. Not when someone else does it first. Today. €50. One tree. Real change.

Our Plan

Plant something that lasts.

Sylva begins with a simple idea: what if people could do something today that would still be growing decades from now?

A tree can outlive the moment it is planted. It can provide shade, shelter wildlife, improve the landscape and become part of a place that future generations inherit. That is what Sylva is about.

We are not trying to create another website where people make a donation and never know what happened to it. We want to create something real, personal and lasting — a real tree, on real land, in Portugal, with a real connection between the person who supports it and the tree that grows.

Why we are doing it

The world is full of things that are temporary. We wanted to create something different — something that gives people the opportunity to put their money toward something alive. Something that grows. Something they can return to. Something they can give to someone they love.

When someone supports a Sylva tree, they should know where their tree is, what tree they supported, what it means, and how it is growing — and eventually, they should be able to visit it.

The current Sylva concept is based around planting 5,000 real trees in Alpedrinha, Portugal, with trees connected to certificates and GPS coordinates. That is the foundation of everything we are building.

Our mission

Plant real trees and give people a meaningful way to become part of their growth. Someone in another country should be able to support a tree in Portugal. A family should be able to create a grove. Someone should be able to plant a tree in memory of someone they lost.

Years from now, these individual decisions should become something much larger. A forest.

The first forest

Our first major objective is to establish and grow the Sylva planting project in Alpedrinha, Portugal — a place where the trees are not simply numbers in a database. They are physically there. Growing. Changing. Becoming part of the landscape.

Our initial vision is 5,000 real trees. Five thousand individual trees. Five thousand stories. And when those trees begin to grow together, they become something much bigger than 5,000 separate purchases. They become a forest.

How we're building it

Step by step, not all at once.

We don't need to launch everything at once. We need to get the foundation right first.

Phase One — Make the trees real

The land, the planting plan, the species, the people and processes to plant and care for the trees — and a system for tracking every one. Every tree gets a tree number, a location, a certificate, and GPS coordinates where applicable. That's the beginning of accountability.

Phase Two — Make the experience personal

This is your tree. This is where it is. This is what you helped create. Simple, not complicated.

Phase Three — Different ways to participate

Single Tree — one person, one tree. Family Grove — three trees, named, for a family. Legacy Forest — ten trees, a family name, aerial footage, and a physical nameplate on site.

Phase Four — A place for gifts

A birthday gift. An anniversary gift. A wedding gift. A gift for a new baby. Enter a recipient's name at checkout and the certificate is made out to them — because a physical object can be lost, but a tree keeps growing.

Phase Five — Memorial trees

Some of the most meaningful trees will be planted in memory of people. A family could visit it, sit beside it, watch it grow, bring their children, and return years later. Not just a product — a living memory.

Phase Six — Build the Sylva community

As the number of trees grows, the people behind them should be able to follow the project, see planting updates and photographs, and eventually meet each other. One person might only support one tree — but together, thousands of people can create a forest.

Phase Seven — Let people visit

The ultimate goal is to make the connection physical: walk through the land, find your tree, see your family grove, bring friends and children. Imagine supporting a tree from another country, then years later, standing beside it.

Phase Eight — Beyond 5,000 trees

5,000 is the beginning, not the end. Once the first project is established, we look at more land, more trees, more groves — but only once we've proven Sylva can do one thing extremely well.

Our standard: trust.

If we say there is a tree, there needs to be a tree. If we say a tree has a location, that information needs to be accurate. If we say money supports planting, we need to know how much and where it goes. We want Sylva to grow because people trust it — not because we make the biggest promises.

What success looks like

Opening the Sylva map years from now and seeing thousands of trees. A family visiting their grove. Someone receiving a tree as a birthday gift and remembering who gave it to them years later. Children visiting trees their parents supported before they were born. A landscape changed because thousands of people decided to do something small — one tree, then another, then another — until eventually, it is a forest.

Plant something that lasts.

We will start with real land. We will plant real trees. We will give people a real connection to them — because the best thing we can leave behind isn't another product. It's something alive.

Donate · The part that makes it all possible

This plan doesn't
build itself.

Before a single tree can go in the ground, someone has to buy the land. And before that land can keep anything alive through a Portuguese summer, it needs water. That's what a donation actually funds.

Here's the part of this plan that doesn't make it into a pretty product photo: land in Alpedrinha doesn't come with water already running to it. To turn dry, cleared scrubland into a forest that actually survives, we need to drill boreholes, install water tanks, dig ponds and swales, and lay irrigation lines across every hectare we plant. Skip that step, and the trees don't make it through their first summer — no matter how many of them we plant.

That infrastructure — the land itself, the boreholes, the tanks, the ponds and swales, the irrigation — is the foundation everything else stands on. It's also the one part of this plan that a single €50 pre-order can't fully cover on its own, especially this early. That's exactly where a donation comes in.

🌿 How a donation is different from the monthly plan

If you've pre-ordered a tree, your optional €5–€35/month plan keeps expanding the forest over time — funding new land and new trees, one grove at a time, for as long as you keep it running. A donation is a one-time, direct contribution that goes straight into the land and water infrastructure itself — the groundwork the whole forest depends on, regardless of how many monthly plans are active. Neither replaces the other. Both are how this plan actually gets built.

Land acquisition in Alpedrinha, Castelo Branco. Boreholes, water tanks, ponds and swales. Irrigation lines run out to every planted plot. Nothing is taken out for fees, marketing, or overhead — Sylva covers its own running costs separately, through tree pre-orders. A donation is the most direct way to help: it becomes land, it becomes water, and together those become a forest that survives.

Our Plan

SYLVA

We want to create something real, personal and lasting.

A real tree. On real land. In Portugal. With a real connection between the person who supports it and the tree that grows.

Why We Are Doing It

The world is full of things that are temporary. People buy things, use them and eventually forget about them. We wanted to create something different — something that gives people the opportunity to put their money toward something alive. Something that grows. Something they can return to. Something they can give to someone they love. Something that can still be there many years from now.

That is why Sylva exists. We want to make planting a tree feel personal. When someone supports a Sylva tree, they should not feel like they simply clicked a button on a website. They should feel like they became part of something. They should know:

  • Where their tree is
  • What tree they supported
  • What it means
  • How it is growing

And eventually, they should be able to visit it.

The current Sylva concept is based around planting 5,000 real trees in Alpedrinha, Portugal, with trees connected to certificates and GPS coordinates. That is the foundation of everything we are building.

Our Mission

Our mission is simple: plant real trees and give people a meaningful way to become part of their growth.

We want Sylva to create a relationship between people and land. Someone in another country should be able to support a tree in Portugal. A family should be able to create a grove. Someone should be able to plant a tree in memory of someone they lost. A couple should be able to mark an important moment with something living. A parent should be able to plant something their child can grow up alongside.

And years from now, these individual decisions should become something much larger. A forest.

The First Forest

Everything starts with the land.

Five thousand reasons for people to care about the project.

And when those trees begin to grow together, they become something much bigger than 5,000 separate purchases. They become a forest.

How We Are Going To Do It

We are going to build Sylva step by step. We do not need to launch everything at once. We need to get the foundation right first.

Phase One — Make the Trees Real

The first priority is establishing the actual planting project. We need the land, the planting plan, the appropriate tree species, and the people and processes required to plant and care for the trees. And we need a system for keeping track of them.

Every tree should have an identity: a tree number, its location, its information, its certificate, and its GPS coordinates where applicable. The existing Sylva model already includes unique tree identification, certificates and GPS coordinates — giving us the beginning of something very important: accountability.

When we tell someone they have supported a tree, there should be a real tree behind that statement.

Phase Two — Make the Experience Personal

Planting the tree is only the beginning. We want the experience of supporting a tree to feel special. When someone purchases a tree, they receive their certificate, know the tree number, and can access its location and understand the project they are supporting.

The person should feel connected to something that exists outside of their screen. The website should make that connection simple, not complicated:

This is your tree. This is where it is. This is what you helped create.

Phase Three — Give People Different Ways to Participate

Not everyone will want the same thing. That is why Sylva can grow around different levels of participation.

Single Tree — One person supports one tree. It is the simplest way to become part of Sylva.

Family Grove — A family can support several trees together and name them. The current concept offers a three-tree Family Grove with naming and additional benefits.

Legacy Forest — For people who want to make a much larger commitment. The current Legacy Forest concept includes ten trees, a family name, aerial footage and a physical nameplate at the site.

The idea behind all three is the same: give people a way to create something that lasts.

Phase Four — Make Sylva a Place for Gifts

A tree can be much more than something someone buys for themselves. It can be a birthday gift, an anniversary gift, a wedding gift, a gift for a new baby, a graduation gift, a Christmas gift — or simply a way of saying "I planted something for you."

The existing Sylva experience already supports entering a recipient's name at checkout, making tree support suitable for occasions such as birthdays, anniversaries and memorials.

We want to make this one of the strongest parts of Sylva. Because a physical object can eventually be lost. A tree keeps growing.

Phase Five — Create Memorial Trees

Some of the most meaningful trees will be planted in memory of people. When someone dies, families often want something that keeps their memory alive. A memorial tree can become that place.

A family could know: "This tree was planted for them." They could visit it, sit beside it, watch it grow, bring their children, take photographs, and return years later. The tree becomes part of the family's history.

This is where Sylva can become something deeply meaningful — not just a product, not just a purchase, but a living memory.

Phase Six — Build the Sylva Community

As the number of trees grows, we want the people behind those trees to become part of a community — able to follow the project, see planting updates and photographs, learn about the land and the trees, see how the forest is developing, and eventually meet each other.

Sylva should feel like a group of people who have collectively helped create something. Because that is exactly what it is. One person might only support one tree. But together, thousands of people can create a forest.

Phase Seven — Let People Visit

The ultimate goal is to make the connection physical. The current Sylva concept already allows trees to be visited, with priority scheduling included in the larger Family Grove offering.

We want to develop that idea further — people should eventually be able to come to Portugal, walk through the land, find their tree, see their family grove, take photographs, plant trees, and bring friends and children to experience the project instead of simply reading about it online.

Imagine supporting a tree from another country and then, years later, standing beside it. That is the kind of relationship we want Sylva to create.

Phase Eight — Grow From 5,000 Trees

The first major goal is 5,000 trees. But 5,000 is not the end — it is the beginning.

Once the first project is established and operating properly, we can look at what comes next: more land, more trees, more supporters, more groves, more families, more experiences, and potentially more locations in the future.

But we will not rush this. We want to prove that Sylva can do one thing extremely well before trying to do ten things. First, build one great forest. Then see where it can go.

How the Money Works

Sylva needs to be financially sustainable. That is extremely important. If the project cannot support itself financially, it cannot continue planting trees year after year.

The money from tree purchases and monthly plans therefore needs to support the actual operation of Sylva, including land, trees and planting, tree care, water and maintenance where required, tracking and identification, certificates, technology, operations, and future planting.

The existing model already uses one-time payments and monthly plans, with monthly contributions helping fund new trees.

As Sylva grows, we want to make the relationship between the money people spend and the work happening on the ground increasingly clear. We don't want vague promises. We want real numbers, real trees, real land, real progress.

Our Standard

Sylva has to be built on trust. That means we cannot say something is happening if it isn't.

If we say there is a tree, there needs to be a tree. If we say a tree has a location, that information needs to be accurate. If we say money supports planting, we need to know how much and where it goes. If we show people a forest, it needs to be a real forest.

We want Sylva to grow because people trust it — not because we make the biggest promises.

What Success Looks Like

Success isn't simply making a certain amount of money. Success is opening the Sylva map years from now and seeing thousands of trees.

Success is a family visiting their grove. Success is someone receiving a tree as a birthday gift and remembering who gave it to them years later. Success is someone planting a memorial tree and having a physical place to remember someone they loved. Success is children visiting trees their parents supported before they were born.

Success is watching a landscape change because thousands of people decided to do something small. One tree. Then another. Then another. Until eventually — it is a forest.

The Long-Term Dream

We want Sylva to become bigger than a tree adoption website. We want it to become a long-term project that connects people, families, land, trees, memories, and future generations.

We want someone to discover Sylva today and still be able to find their tree many years from now. We want the forest to become more valuable with time, not less. Because that is what makes a tree different — time works in its favour. The longer it grows, the more it becomes.

Our Promise

We are not promising to solve every environmental problem in the world. We are starting with something we can understand, something we can physically see, something we can build carefully: trees.

We will start with real land. We will plant real trees. We will give people a real connection to them. We will build the experience around trust, transparency and meaning. We will grow carefully. And as Sylva grows, the forest will grow with it.

Because we believe that the best thing we can leave behind isn't another product, another advertisement, or another website. It is something alive. Something that provides value long after the original purchase is forgotten. Something that children can stand beneath. Something that families can return to. Something that keeps growing.

SYLVA

Plant something that lasts.
