We use professional planting methods suited to the land, but can't guarantee survival against events like drought, disease, or wildfire. If a tree we planted dies within 12 months due to something within our control, we replant it at no cost to you. Full detail in Terms, Section 9.
Not yet — site visits aren’t something we can offer during the pre-sale, but they’re part of the long-term plan as the forest grows. For now, you’ll receive a photo of your tree once it’s planted, along with your certificate.

Yes — each plan has a "3-Month Plan Bundle" option in the pre-order form: 50% off your one-time tree fee, in exchange for keeping the monthly plan active for a minimum of 3 billing cycles. Your tree is planted on exactly the same terms either way. Full details are in our Terms, Section 2A.
On the invite page you get a personal link. When someone reserves a tree through it, their order shows who invited them. There’s no reward attached to invites right now; if that changes, we’ll explain exactly how it works first.
Every tree gets a unique tree number tied to your name, and a real photo once it's planted, with GPS coordinates where available. A public, ongoing impact dashboard (total trees planted, hectares restored) will be added once real planting data exists.
Details on who physically plants and maintains the trees (in-house team, local contractors, or partner organizations) will be published here once confirmed.

This is not a political opinion. This is what science confirms. And it is the reason Sylva exists — because waiting for someone else to fix it wasn't good enough anymore.

Alpedrinha sits in the hills of Castelo Branco, Portugal — land that has been cleared, dried out, and left mostly quiet for decades. Stand there today and you'll see scrubland, exposed soil, and the kind of silence that comes from an ecosystem that lost most of its trees a long time ago. It doesn't have to stay that way.

The idea behind Sylva is almost embarrassingly simple: buy the land, get water to it, and put trees in the ground — real ones, thousands of them, each one registered to a real person, in a real place. Not a symbolic gesture. Not a certificate that represents a tree somewhere that may or may not exist. An actual forest, growing, on actual land, because actual people decided to fund it into existence.

That's the part most people don't think about when they picture "planting a tree": before a single sapling goes into the ground, someone has to own the land, and that land has to have water — boreholes, tanks, ponds and swales, irrigation lines — or nothing planted on it survives its first dry Portuguese summer. That's the unglamorous, essential work this whole plan depends on. It's also exactly what your pre-order and every donation goes toward.

We don’t put a precise CO₂ or oxygen number on your tree. The real figure depends on the species, soil, rainfall and how long the tree lives — and we’d rather be honest than impressive.

Our Plan

Plant something that lasts.

Sylva begins with a simple idea: what if people could do something today that would still be growing decades from now?

A tree can outlive the moment it is planted. It can provide shade, shelter wildlife, improve the landscape and become part of a place that future generations inherit. That is what Sylva is about.

We are not trying to create another website where people make a donation and never know what happened to it. We want to create something real, personal and lasting.

Why we are doing it

The world is full of things that are temporary. We wanted to create something different — something that gives people the opportunity to put their money toward something alive. Something that grows. Something they can return to. Something they can give to someone they love.

When someone supports a Sylva tree, they should know where their tree is, what tree they supported, what it means, and how it is growing — and eventually, they should be able to visit it.

The current Sylva concept is based around planting 3,535 real trees in Alpedrinha, Portugal, with trees connected to certificates and GPS coordinates. That is the foundation of everything we are building.

Our mission

Plant real trees and give people a meaningful way to become part of their growth. Someone in another country should be able to support a tree in Portugal. A family should be able to create a grove. Someone should be able to plant a tree in memory of someone they lost.

Years from now, these individual decisions should become something much larger. A forest.

The first forest

Our first major objective is to establish and grow the Sylva planting project in Alpedrinha, Portugal — a place where the trees are not simply numbers in a database. They are physically there. Growing. Changing. Becoming part of the landscape.

Our initial vision is 3,535 real trees. Three thousand individual trees. Thousands of stories. And when those trees begin to grow together, they become something much bigger than 3,535 separate purchases. They become a forest.

How we're building it

Step by step, not all at once.

We don't need to launch everything at once. We need to get the foundation right first.

Phase One — Make the trees real

The land, the planting plan, the species, the people and processes to plant and care for the trees — and a system for tracking every one. Every tree gets a tree number, a location, a certificate, and GPS coordinates where applicable. That's the beginning of accountability.

Phase Two — Make the experience personal

This is your tree. This is where it is. This is what you helped create. Simple, not complicated.

Phase Three — Different ways to participate

Single Tree — one person, one tree. Family Grove — three trees, named, for a family. Legacy Forest — ten trees, a family name, aerial footage, and a physical nameplate on site.

Phase Four — A place for gifts

A birthday gift. An anniversary gift. A wedding gift. A gift for a new baby. Enter a recipient's name at checkout and the certificate is made out to them — because a physical object can be lost, but a tree keeps growing.

Phase Five — Memorial trees

Some of the most meaningful trees will be planted in memory of people. A family could visit it, sit beside it, watch it grow, bring their children, and return years later. Not just a product — a living memory.

Phase Six — Build the Sylva community

As the number of trees grows, the people behind them should be able to follow the project, see planting updates and photographs, and eventually meet each other. One person might only support one tree — but together, thousands of people can create a forest.

Phase Seven — Let people visit

The ultimate goal is to make the connection physical: walk through the land, find your tree, see your family grove, bring friends and children. Imagine supporting a tree from another country, then years later, standing beside it.

Phase Eight — Beyond 3,535 trees

3,535 is the beginning, not the end. Once the first project is established, we look at more land, more trees, more groves — but only once we've proven Sylva can do one thing extremely well.

Our standard: trust.

If we say there is a tree, there needs to be a tree. If we say a tree has a location, that information needs to be accurate. If we say money supports planting, we need to know how much and where it goes. We want Sylva to grow because people trust it — not because we make the biggest promises.

What success looks like

Opening the Sylva map years from now and seeing thousands of trees. A family visiting their grove. Someone receiving a tree as a birthday gift and remembering who gave it to them years later. Children visiting trees their parents supported before they were born. A landscape changed because thousands of people decided to do something small — one tree, then another, then another — until eventually, it is a forest.

Before a single tree can go in the ground, someone has to buy the land. And before that land can keep anything alive through a Portuguese summer, it needs water. That's what a donation actually funds.

Here's the part of this plan that doesn't make it into a pretty product photo: land in Alpedrinha doesn't come with water already running to it. To turn dry, cleared scrubland into a forest that actually survives, we need to drill boreholes, install water tanks, dig ponds and swales, and lay irrigation lines across every hectare we plant. Skip that step, and the trees don't make it through their first summer — no matter how many of them we plant.

That infrastructure — the land itself, the boreholes, the tanks, the ponds and swales, the irrigation — is the foundation everything else stands on. It's also the one part of this plan that a single €50 pre-order can't fully cover on its own, especially this early. That's exactly where a donation comes in.
